Yesterday was a perfect day to switch things up and “press the reset button” as they say. I’ve had a bunch of family in town for my wife’s graduation, and it was a great week. That being said, I’m ready to focus again, and prepare for this weekend’s races. T-minus less than 3 weeks until Zach,…

#greengulch got me. For being a n00b on the MTB, i had so much fun today. Couldn’t be more perfect in Marin. #survivalofthehappiest #latergram
Red Kite #3 I think it was… 2nd one for me, and on this occasion, I did the 2/3 AND the P12 race. Legs felt terrible in the first race. I’m not sure if it was the heat or what (94 degrees?), but I was just having to exert so much effort and energy to stay up front, whereas I can usually cruise and hang out up there no problem. Oh well, I was still able to stay up front in the top 7 until one and a half laps to go, where the swarm happened as per usual. I’m usually decent at anticipating the swarm, and I even did a bunch of mental prepping for it this week, but I just didn’t have the legs to jump on it…. last timeI had the legs, but lacked the sharp focus. I will get it right one of these days. My legs were absolutely empty at the end. It was fcuking HOT. I’m sure my fellow San Franciscans can attest to that.
Rainier was awesome and had two cold bottles waiting for me after the 2/3 race, and I had time to rip off my number and pin the other one on. I wasn’t sure how I would fair after having a less than stellar race, but surprisingly I felt much better. The weather started to cool down, and my legs started to open up. It was a much faster race from the gun, but still manageable for sure. I even got to patrol the front every couple of laps. It was fun racing with Rainier again. It’s already been 4 years since we started carpooling for the early bird races. Time flies, no? Pack finish for me, and Rainier got 6th, just off the podium. Hopefully we’ll get some photos from the race soon.
